What is Strade Bianche?

It is a road bicycle race starting and finishing in Siena, Tuscany, Central Italy. The name Strade Bianche comes from the historic white gravel roads which are a defining feature of the race.

Strade Bianche takes place on the weekend of 3rd – 6th March 2022 in Siena, Tuscany.

“What are the Stade Bianche Entry Requirements?

To take part in the Gran Fondo. Strade Bianche Sportive, you must be aged between 18 and 64. Alternatively, 16-18 and those over 64 can enter the Medio Fondo Strade Bianche.

You also have to get a medical certificate signed by your doctor within the last year from the event date. The certificate needs to state that you according to clinical investigations carried out, doesn’t present any contraindication related to the sport to cardiovascular intensive activity.

Gusto Cycling is offering 2 types of packages of 3 night/4 day package – a weekend package is a stay in Siena for the whole weekend or enjoy a guided weekend based in my friend’s farmhouse 12km outside Siena.

The Strade Bianche Sportive package will be accommodation in Siena and guaranteed registration in Grid 300 – 1500 position. You will watch the pro riders at the start/finish on Saturday and participate in the Gran Fondo Strade Bianche on Sunday .

Accommodation is in 3 or 4-star hotel in the heart of Siena on a bed and buffet breakfast basis for 3 nights in Siena (where the event starts and finishes) with guaranteed registration place for the ride event.

THE STANDARD PROGRAMME

* Friday 3rd March 2023 – Check-in at the hotel

Friday depending at what time you arrive you can enjoy a cycle ride on some of the routes with every chance you will meet many pro-riders checking the route out themselves. Test yourself by climbing the final hilly section of Santa Caterina into the centre of this stunning medieval Piazza Del Campo , Siena, I can assure you it’s good to test yourself on this last hilly section, remember what happened to Wout van Aert who came in 3rd place 4 years ago he had a real struggle to get over this section.

Saturday 4th March – Professional Strade Bianche pro race starts in Siena, watch the riders sign-on, watch the start and later wait to see them arrive back into Siena and finish in the famous Piazza del Campo in the heart of Siena. There is an optional transfer by minibus to view the riders cycle pass close by at a few locations on the route.

Sunday 5th March – Participate in the amateur Gran Fondo Strade Bianche ride event – Fantastic opportunity to experience this iconic event.

Monday 6th March – Check out of your hotel

Extra Services

* Airport transfer can be arranged from Pisa or Florence airport and return.

* There is on Saturday an optional transfer by minibus after the riders have left the start to view the riders as they cycle pass at a few locations on the route.

* Carbon or Gravel bike rental available for the weekend from £170 subject to availability and delivered to the hotel.

Hotel Minerva 3 star

Cost for 3 nights accommodation on a bed and buffet breakfast with guaranteed registrations at the Hotel Minerva 3 star hotel is from £507 per person (limited places at this price based on 2 persons sharing a twin/double at the 3-star hotel with buffet breakfast and each with guaranteed ride registration starting position between 1001 to 2000 grid out of 6500 riders. there is a supplement for higher position on the grid. The hotel is located near Siena train station and perfectly located near the start/finish of the ride event.

Hotel Athena 4 star

Cost for 3 nights accommodation on a bed and buffet breakfast with guaranteed registrations at the Hotel Athena 4 star hotel is from £507 per person based on 2 persons sharing (limited places at this price) a twin/double at the 4-star hotel with buffet breakfast and guaranteed ride registration each with starting position between 1001 to 1500 grid out of 6500 riders. The hotel is ideally located in the south centre of Siena perfectly located to easily ride to the start/finish of the ride event.

The above packages are limited and all ride places start within the Fortezza Medicea.

The Alternative Option Programme

The weekend is a fully guided programme which allows you to have an unforgettable experience.

Itinerary includes:

Friday 3rd March – arrive at Pisa or Florence airport followed by private transfer to my friend’s Farmhouse 10km outside Siena, close to the first sections of Strade Bianche.

Once checked in at the accommodation, we head straight out and cycle parts of the Strade Bianchi and probably meet some of the pro’s along the route who will be doing a reccy of the ride for the following days pro race, after we head straight to the Centre of Siena up the iconic climb of Via Santa Caterina into the main Piazza del Campo where the famous race ends.

Friday night dinner with wine and water included.

Saturday 4th March – early morning start (no bikes) visit the centre of Siena – collect your registration for Sundays ride, then watch the pro’s sign on for the event – watch the start of the event.

After the start we transfer by minibus to watch 2 sections of race – after we head to the finish and watch the riders arrive along the narrow streets of Siena into the finish in Piazza Del Campo.

Saturday night optional dinner at local restaurant.

Sunday 5th March – very early breakfast – we transfer to Siena, park up and head to start line. After the ride, we all meet up and transfer back to the accommodation to freshen up and enjoy dinner locally.

Monday 6th March – check out and transfer back to Pisa or Florence airport.

Tour Highlights:

Friday – if you arriva in Siena early enough you can a training ride including gravel sections – enter the centre of Siena via the famous last climb of Santa Caterina into the city and experience the finish area in the stunning Piazza del Campo.

Saturday – Watch the Pros at the start in Siena – transfers to watch the pro’s along the route and return to watch the pros return to the finish.

Sunday – Participate in the famed Grand Fondo Strade Bianche. Enjoy 1 dinner with local family and friends.
